What makes you come alive?

Your Sunlight is the activities, people, and places that energize you, bring you joy, and power you up. This is where you find yours — every day.

Free · About five minutes · Your baseline across the four sources

Just like a plant requires sunlight to create energy, humans require consistent Sunlight to grow and thrive. — Find Your Sunlight
Everyone's light is different

The four sources of Sunlight

In our workshops, people write their Sunlight on Post-it notes — one activity per note. Every wall ends up different. Every wall has the same four sources.

Creative

"paint bad art"

Making things — cooking, music, writing, building, gardening.

Relational

"coffee, no phones"

The people who fill you up — and real time with them.

Experiential

"a park I've never seen"

Doing and exploring — travel, sports, nature, novelty.

Self-Care

"fifteen quiet minutes"

Rest and renewal — stillness, movement, sleep, prayer.

The free Sunlight Assessment

We'll send the workbook and nothing else, unless you also join the Sunlight Note below.

Run a Sunlight Workshop

The Sunlight Gallery Walk works with five people or three hundred — a family at the kitchen table, a staff meeting, a whole district. Post-it notes, four signs, twenty minutes. The full script is in the book; get the wall signs, templates, and facilitation guide here.

The Sunlight Note

One short note. Once a week.

A story, a question, and one way to find your Sunlight this week — written by Mawi, read in under two minutes. This is the Sunlight community's front porch.

About Mawi

He wrote the book he needed

Mawi Asgedom was born in Tigray, Ethiopia, survived a refugee camp in Sudan, and arrived in America speaking no English. With the help of mentors and a relentless work ethic he calls Turbo, he earned a scholarship to Harvard, self-published his memoir Of Beetles and Angels out of his car — before Little, Brown acquired it and Oprah called — and built Mawi Learning, which trained over a million students before it was acquired by ACT.

Then his own light went out, and his skin was the first to say so. Find Your Sunlight is what he learned on the way back: that you can't unlock anything when your own light has gone out — and that the light is closer than you think.

He lives outside Chicago with his wife and four kids, usually coaching somebody's team. More at mawi.com →
